Admissions Process

Becoming a Carthusian

At Charterhouse Malaysia we recognise that human intelligence is broad. It is not limited just to academic intelligence but also includes social and emotional intelligence. It includes the ability to think deeply and evaluate that thinking, to grasp new situations quickly and, most importantly, to be able to assess personal abilities. Our unique Spectra Smarts programme aims to develop a student’s full range of potential, ensuring that they are well equipped to make their mark in the world.

Our students are encouraged to think and learn independently by engaging in projects in the local community. By devising innovative solutions to social issues, they not only build confidence and leadership skills, but also a deeper sense of social responsibility.

The admissions process reflects the minimum academic standard, life experience and personal characteristics that will form the foundation of a successful Charterhouse Malaysia student.

Who should apply to be a Charterhouse Malaysia Student?

A Charterhouse Malaysia student is one who can demonstrate high academic achievement coupled with a history of commitment to personal growth, service of others, student leadership, involvement in the life of the school and their community and the potential to be transformative. Applicants must demonstrate their potential to study, create and inspire and that they share the Charterhouse personality traits of perseverance, responsibility, moral courage, open-mindedness and kindness.

Places at Charterhouse Malaysia are limited and highly sought after. Academic standards are exceptionally high and it is anticipated that most students would be able to demonstrate a history of excellence in their national or international examinations. The minimum spread of results would be 6 grade Bs at IGCSE, SPM or equivalent and should include the subjects they wish to study at A-Level or a related discipline.

All students are chosen on merit, regardless of nationality, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or religion.

What is the Charterhouse Malaysia Admissions process?

Step One – Information

Gather as much information as you can, independently, about the school, Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia (if relocating from overseas).  This could be through use of the internet, speaking to agents or from existing students and parents.

Step Two – Enquiry

Complete an Enquiry Form. Once we receive your enquiry a member of the admissions team will contact you to arrange an opportunity for you to speak with them or a member of the academic leadership team to answer any questions you may have.

Step Three – Application

Complete an application form. Once an application form has been filled in the admissions team will arrange for the admissions tests and interview to take place at our campus, offices, online or at an overseas satellite. A non-refundable admissions fee will be payable at this time.

Step Four – Assessment

The following assessments are required:

  1. CAT4 Test. This is a cognitive abilities test that provides the school with data on a student’s potential to succeed at A-Level. It is not a pass or fail type of test, it is diagnostic in nature and is used to help the school determine an individual learning programme for each students admitted to Charterhouse Malaysia.
  2. All students and parents will be interviewed by a member of the School Leadership Team. This is an opportunity for us to share our educational philosophy with you and ensure that you are fully aware of expectations. It is also an opportunity for us to get to know both the parents and students and for them to get to know us.
  3. Supplementary English Test. Should a student’s CAT4 results indicate that the English Language may be a barrier to learning we will conduct a deeper diagnostic test of the students written English. We need to ensure that we can provide the support required for all our students to access the curriculum and excel.
  4. Academic Records and Reference. We will require the last two years of academic results, both internal and external (as applicable) and a reference from the student’s current or last school.

Step Five – Decision

Our decision on admittance is communicated in writing and orally (via telephone or in person) by the admissions team. If a student is offered a place at Charterhouse Malaysia, and this offer is accepted, then a non-refundable registration fee is required to be paid.

Step Six – Enrolment

Payment of the first Term’s fee is due before the first day of Term. (Subsequent payments, Termly, should be paid before the first day of each Term.)
